Huge Hunt: Showdown update overhauls the experience for new players
Crytek's Hunt: Showdown is a unique shooter, a medium-scale open world where players team up upbound, find and take behind monsters, and so at long las fight each other (or gleefully evacuate with arms a-laden). It's been receiving updates fairly on a regular basis ever since its early access launch in February 2018 (it hit full passing in late 2019), and now a John Roy Major 1.5 update has overhauled the game's frontend, made changes big and small, and added an armory's worth of new ammunition types. In a game where one good shot is a kill (happening players, anyway), the latter is a Big cheese.
The frontend overhaul is perhaps most interesting, however, because to be unconditional about it Hunt's menus were never great: lots of things are nested away, the game would show you important data in one case and so never mention it again, and it wasn't pure what some parts of it did or what you should be focusing on. I'm no Hunt adept but I've played a morsel of information technology, and often found myself being guided around the menus by my more experienced friends to unlock upgrades and things I didn't realise I had.
Possibly that just shows I'm an changeling, only this is a game occupied with deep and complex systems and clearly Crytek wasn't happy with the bounce pace of new players either. Version 1.5's improvements in this area are targeted at "player on-boarding" and, in a masterpiece of understatement, "it is now much easier to see just about the purpose of each menu and the unfit in universal." Those onetime tips and former entropy are now available along-demand from a toggleable aid menu, more than data in general has been added, and hallelujah, because the textual matter now visually links to peculiar menu elements. It's punishing to overstate what a John R. Major melioration to the game this is.
Additionally to fashioning Hunt more accessible for new players, Crytek's also set some longstanding issues including the phenomenon of concertina telegram au fon acting as an iron wall for bullet covering. Someone was obviously selfsame unhappy with this wire, because IT now provides much fewer cover charge, can be shredded by bullets, and potty now only be cut with blades.
Version 1.5 also adds a dizzying range of custom ammunition, "designed arsenic a side-grade rather than an upgrade, offer a lot more than assortment likewise as allowing players to seamster their loadouts level many to their playstyle." Players can calm opt for the default ammunition only each customised type has its ups and downs, some are more suited to PvP, and most importantly you can't change your loadout mid-match.
There's an complete amount of information connected all the types being added, which you can read present, but to make about idea of the total existence added there are: envenom rounds, incendiaries, dum-dums, FMJs, high-speed rounds, spitzers, explosive shots, flechettes, slugs, and indeed on. Most eye-catching is the centime shot, which allows you to bam someone with a load of coins which apparently "shreds cutis and chassis, but cannot fathom harder obstacles."
This ties into a change to the hand crossbow, which is now a pocketable rather than a medium weapon. "As well as the addition of the brand-new tactical ammo types such as the croak, chaos, and poison," writes Crytek, "we need to encourage its use arsenic a more mobile tool in the players Arsenal. Please note you cannot dual-wield the reach crossbow."
I take over few friends who are concerned with Hunt: Face-of, to the extent it's Thomas More-or-less all they shimmer. I've ne'er quite been competent to become as into it as they are, and I'd put under that largely down to the fact I always enjoy the halting itself, but could never really be bothered to dive amply into what seemed like a labyrinthe and confusing menu and meta-levelling system. Information technology always felt the like the game's excellency was slenderly buried under too many layers. With Version 1.5, hopefully more than hunters will be able to encounter past the cruft, and discover what makes this Encounter special.
